About Artist

Betty Susiarjo

Betty Susiarjo (b. Indonesia) is a contemporary mixed media artist whose practice unfolds through light, material, and the passage of time. Working across installation, video, and material-based processes, her work reflects a quiet and contemplative engagement with perception, stillness, and presence.

Influenced by an ongoing dialogue between the physical and the metaphysical, her practice explores how a moment is experienced within a particular time and space. Rather than constructing narratives, her works often present suspended or “arrested” states, inviting reflection on the subtle, often overlooked dimensions of everyday reality and beauty.

In recent years, her research has focused on ideas surrounding light and shadow, not only as visual elements, but as carriers of atmosphere and meaning. Through the use of tactile methods such as sewing, embroidery, and beading, she introduces a material sensitivity that blurs the line between the tangible and the illusory.

Betty has exhibited internationally across Asia, Europe and South America. Her works have been presented in OTA Fine Arts (Tokyo), Sebastian Foundation (Mexico City), ART STAGE (Singapore), ARTJOG (Yogyakarta), and Personal Structures: Identities (Venice) in the context of the Venice Biennale. Her installation The Blue Who Swims All This Way was part of a long-term children exhibition at the National Gallery Singapore.

Betty is currently preparing for an upcoming solo exhibition in Bali, Indonesia.
